It’s been said that “when in Rome, do as the Romans do.” It’s an adage that equally applies to Tupelo, Mississippi. Thus, when you are not out on the water fishing, why not join the locals in celebrating the legacy the most famous son of the city – Elvis Presley.
While immersing in that heritage, there’s no better place to headquarter your trip than the recently opened Tru by Hilton -Tupelo. The hotel provides a boutique experience centrally located for exploring all that this Mississippi city has to offer.

The hotel features rooms and suites with either single king, or double queen beds with coffee makers and mini-fridges. Downstairs in the lobby you find a lounge area with big screen television, a pool table and work spaces. There also is a market area offering snacks and soft drinks, along with an area for enjoying the free breakfast buffet. Rounding out the amenities are an exercise gym and spaces for getting some business completed.

The Tru’s central location provides quick 10-minute access to the restaurants and shopping in the historic downtown area, as well as the Cadence Bank Arena and Tupelo Fairpark that host the concerts and events of the annual Tupelo Elvis Festival in June.
Other close-by attractions include the Elvis Presley Birthplace and Museum, plus the historic Johnnie’s Drive-In, where the King of Rock & Roll often enjoyed his favorite meal of a cheeseburger and RC Cola. You might even get to occupy the Elvis booth where he usually dined.

Just a 10-minute drive to the west of the Tru you find the Tupelo Buffalo Park & Zoo. This facility offers walking and/or driving tours on which you see their signature bison herd, but also can view a wide variety of fauna ranging from kangaroos to ostriches and sloths to giraffes.

The Queen’s Reward is the only meadery in the state of Mississippi and conveniently located along your route to or from the Buffalo Park. The meadery serves up a variety of those honey-based adult beverages. You can enjoy your glass in the tasting area or head outside to the deck or tables beneath the shade trees.

Finally, and most importantly to anglers, Elvis Presley Lake and its fishing options are just 12 minutes to the northeast of the Tru by Hilton.
The bottom line is there’s good fly fishing available near Tupelo and plenty of other options for enjoying the city when you are not on the water – and the Tru by Hilton Tupelo is a great option for overnight stays.
