Gearing Up For The Tellico
On The Fly Gear
January 2025
When you are headed to Tennessee’s Tellico River and surrounding waters, a good option for your first stop would be at Tellico Outfitters in the town of Tellico Plains. When you venture out on any fishing trip, and especially to an area with which you are unfamiliar, knowing what gear and information you need and having a place to get those is important.

That’s where an emporium like this shop comes in handy. Dropping by 109 Scott Street in the downtown section can give you a leg up on the fishing and save some trial-and-error time on the water. The shop is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sundays and closed on Mondays.
On their racks and shelves, you find gear form R.L. Winston, Ross Reels, Waterworks Lamson, Simms, Hareline Dubbin and more. And, of course, a wide selection of flies tailored for the local waters are available.
Open since April 2019, they point out that their goal is to work hard to provide the best possible experience while exploring the fantastic fishing opportunities that Tellico Plains has to offer. The shop’s staff strives to bring you top quality gear, local knowledge, fly fishing instruction and top-notch customer service. Leading that effort is owner Cody Fisher, an experienced and knowledgeable angler and guide himself.

There are more than 300 miles of trout water within easy access to Tellico Plains and the shop can provide you with tips, information and fly suggestions on the Tellico, North and Bald rivers, as well as Turkey and Citico creeks.
To get you ready for the fishing, also offered are clinics on small stream tactics or Euro-nymphing techniques. Once you’re ready to hit the water, half and full day guided trips can be arranged, where you can put that knowledge to use on the Tellico River. Those trips can include rods, reels, waders and other gear as needed. Lunch is also included in full-day trips.
If you are not able to visit the shop, you can check out their fishing reports on the website. Those reports provide information on stream conditions, hot fly patterns and tactics to employ.

Visiting Tellico Outfitters can make your visit to this southeast Tennessee area a much more productive venture. Drop by and take advantage of their local knowledge.
