If you’re an avid fisherman, chances are you have stayed here and continue to return year after year. My first few visits were invitations from various manufacturers that hosted groups of anglers. River Palms Cottages is the perfect place for hosting groups or for individuals just in the area to fish for the many species that call this section of southeast Florida home. Returning here time after time, feels like a homecoming to many of us.

Captain Rufus Wakeman and his wife Melynda purchased River Palms years ago as a condemned property. Their passion for fishing, tropical plants and their love of the area fueled their enthusiasm as they turned the property into what it is today. With a tight community of dedicated employees, they make up a small family that works together to provide a place for fun and relaxation.

Located in Jensen Beach on the western bank of the Indian River Lagoon at Marker No. 222, River Palms Cottages and Fish Camp has convenient access to snook, redfish, speckled trout, tarpon, sailfish, and the many other fish species that inhabit the waters of the lagoon or the nearby Atlantic Ocean. Rufus’ passion is fishing. He is a charter captain and offers guided trips on the river and offshore fishing. A fishing chart on the website also provides anglers a listing of fish species and the best times of year for targeting them.

The cottages have quaint Old Florida vibe.

River Palm’s 25 cottages range from one-bedroom efficiencies and bungalows to the four-bedroom Riverhouse. The accommodations are strewn among the property’s 7.2 acres of lush vegetation. The owner’s passion has sowed more than 80 varieties of edible plants, fruits and medicinal herbs.

Inside they are tasteful, comfortable and modern.

A favorite place of the property is an authentic Seminole chickee hut built by local Indians in 1998. It is a popular place for wedding receptions, family reunions and other special events, accommodating up to 250 guests.

Their Chickee and grounds make this an ideal place to host family reunions, business retreats, birthday parties or just about any celebration or gathering. Their website also offers suggestions for caterers, tents, florists, entertainment and plenty more to make your event complete.

Though this is a fish camp, guests vary from all walks of life that come here to just enjoy the tropical paradise. For the non-anglers in your group there is a listing of nearby attractions, museums or shopping. Golf, parks, and entertainment ideas for rainy days are also provided.

The dock is lighted for some nighttime fishing action.

On site there are seven boat slips, a nature walk, pool, sandy beach, hammocks and a play area for children. The property is pet-friendly with a few rules to keep pets and guests safe and happy.
