This hotel on the coast of Georgia is truly a gem that harkens back to the days of service and elegance at an affordable cost. The resort sits atop a scenic riverfront bluff in the historical town of Darien. It is convenient to favorite coastal Georgia fishing areas as well as restaurants, and all the amenities one would need to enjoy an angling trip in comfort.

            The hotel’s founder Art Lucas’ aim was to revitalize a portion of Darien’s waterfront into a beacon of luxury, while incorporating the area’s artists and the inclusion of the coast’s natural features such as aged oaks and other rich handiwork of nature. Guests of Oaks on the River will enjoy visiting the rich history of the state’s second oldest city, including Fort King George or the culture of nearby Sapelo Island.

            The lobby is a feast for the eyes, designed with welcoming furnishings and tasteful artist renderings of the local coastal beauty, as well as a grand piano.

            The spaciously luxurious rooms overlook the Darien River or the picturesque town of Darien. The rooms are meticulously designed with attention to detail using Bernhardt furnishings, high-quality Spanish linens, spacious showers, and most rooms feature a balcony.

            The hotel’s restaurant overlooks Darien’s waterfront, offering a captivating view that adds to the mouthwatering fare that the eatery offers. The restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch, dinner and offers a Sunday Brunch from 11:00 am – 2:00 pm every weekend. Their Signature Breakfast for under $7 includes two eggs, bacon or sausage, hash browns or grits and toast was a popular choice for most guests. Other offerings are avocado toast, seasonal fruit and yogurt, Eggs Benedict, omelets, breakfast sandwiches and more. The lunch menu includes quick soup, salad or sandwich combos, heartier soups and gumbos, a variety of salads, local seafood dishes, and handhelds. Dinners have offerings of appetizers that including soups and gumbos, trout dip, fritters or a variety of salads. The main menu tempts with short ribs, gumbo bowl, shrimp and grits, halibut, salmon, steaks and much more. A selection of delicious desserts will complete your meal.

            The Oaks Cedar Bar serves up a selection of top-shelf cocktails created with fresh ingredients and innovative flavors. There’s also beers, wines and other beverages for a great beginning or ending of your evening meal. An assortment of Happy Hour snacks and dishes are also available at a wallet-friendly price.

            McIntosh County’s natural beauty includes coastal marshes, islands, rivers and beaches. Visitors to Darien can also keep an eye out for Altie, (or Altamahaha) the area’s legendary sea monster in the river.
