This come-as-you-are casual bar is located at the Blue Marlin Beach Resort on South Water Caye in Belize. It is the perfect place to finish off the evening after enjoying a delicious meal at the adjoining Charlie’s Dining Room.
This is the spot to mingle with other guests of the resort, to shoot some pool, swap fish stories or to just enjoy a favorite beverage while contemplating your next adventure or reminiscing of earlier events. Charlie’s Bar is also the hotspot on the property for accessing WiFi.
It is named for the proprietor Roselia Zabaneh’s brother-in-law Charles, whom spent many days in his youth and beyond tending to and improving the island. His love for the island and marine life grew over the years, even prior to his mother purchasing the property the resort sits on in 1961.
At Charlie’s one can enjoy a cold tropical cocktail, an imported beer, rum, other liquors, wine or a cold Belikin, the locally brewed Belizean beer. Perched over the water, guests of Charlie’s can wander out on the deck to enjoy their beverage while taking in the view and ocean breeze.
If you’d rather enjoy your snack and libation from your private veranda, the bartender will provide room service. Stocking of your mini-bar is also available upon request. The entire staff is friendly and competent. They are eager to please and genuinely feel like family by the time you leave.
Charlie’s is a popular stopover for boaters enroute to other destinations as well. While there, we had a group of anglers on a multi-day trip stop in to replenish their supply of beers and other beverages. Also, during a stroll on the dock, I encountered a couple of friendly ladies that had just arrived on their yacht from Guatemala. They inquired where I was from, and when I replied Athens, Georgia, one of the women immediately mentioned that her husband who was on the boat was a Bulldog, having also attended the University of Georgia! Small world indeed.
