Bird’s Isle Restaurant

Belize City, Belize

End of the Line

September 2026

If you are passing through Belize City during a fishing venture and want a sample of local culture and cuisine, a stop at Bird’s Isle Restaurant can fill that bill. Located on Albert Street, across the short bridge from downtown to the island, and at the end of a dirt drive, either lunch, dinner or simply a cold libation provides a Caribbean vibe.

The appeal of the eatery is enhanced by its open-air thatch-roofed deck on the water. You can catch a cool breeze off the sea, while enjoying a colorful sunset and sipping the local Belikin beer or a classic Bahama Mama cocktail from their full bar.

The hospitality is friendly, the entrees generous, the drinks cold and the desserts tempting.

When it comes to the food, fare from the sea takes center stage. Grilled snapper, shrimp ceviche or crisply fried fish fingers are highlights, or you can try their local lobster tails. All the servings are fresh and locally produced. The menu has offerings of beef, chicken and pork as well. A side of classic red beans and rice can complete any of those meals.

Make no mistake, Bird’s Isle Restaurant is no tourist trap. Expect to find just as many local inhabitants dining here as travelers.

Be aware, however, that this is not an American style fast food operation. Cooked to order entrees need their time. So, kick back with a cold drink and enjoy this slice of Belizean culture and lifestyle while you wait.
