Anytime you are heading to the Panhandle region of Florida for some saltwater fly-casting, it is possible to combine the angling with a step back to an elegant period in the Sunshine State. The Gibson Inn in Apalachicola offers just such and experience.

Constructed in 1907 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the inn provides true southern hospitality that is steeped in charm and history. The inn bills itself as the “modern expression of the New Old Florida.”  That’s because within its historic walls, visitors find all the modern conveniences in plush surroundings.

Compassed by breeze swept, wrap-around verandas, the interior guest rooms offer hand-laid marble bathrooms, hardwood floors and crown molding in newly renovated guest rooms and suites. Select décor and furnishings complete these accommodations.

Positioned on the corner of Market and Columbus streets in Apalachicola’s downtown, the Gibson provides easy access to the sights and attractions of the city founded as West Point in 1827, but had its name changed to Apalachicola in 1831.

After some sightseeing, or more likely sampling the fly-fishing options of the surrounding waters, dining in the Gibson’s inhouse Franklin Café can cap off the day. The restaurant serves up seasonal cuisine, as well as steaks, chops and fresh Gulf Coast seafood. The meals are often accompanied by live music.

Either before or after your meal, a stop at the adjacent Parlor Bar is the perfect start or finish to the meal. This definitive local watering hole serves up cocktails and local beers to quinch your thirst. Their Old Fashion is a must-try that fits well with atmosphere of the Gibson Inn.
